Kash Keed, born Peter Ohingo, is a Nairobi-based music producer, artist, video director, and creative entrepreneur whose work has become closely tied to the evolution of Kenya’s contemporary urban sound. Operating across Afrobeat, Gengetone, hip-hop, and Afro-fusion, he represents a new generation of multidisciplinary creatives who move fluidly between music production, visual storytelling, talent development, and creative direction.
While also active as an artist in his own right, Kash Keed is perhaps most widely recognised for his behind-the-scenes influence as a producer and architect of some of the defining sounds within Kenya’s modern urban music movement. His production work with Mbuzi Gang, particularly on breakout records such as Wagithomo and Shamra Shamra, helped shape the high-energy, youth-centred sound that pushed Gengetone into mainstream consciousness. His ability to merge infectious rhythm structures with commercially appealing melodies positioned him as one of the producers helping define the sonic direction of Nairobi’s club and street music culture.
As an artist, Kash Keed blends melodic Afrobeat influences with rap, dancehall textures, and contemporary East African pop sensibilities. Tracks such as Fatima, Nimelewa, You & I, and Sugar Banana showcase a style rooted in catchy hooks, rhythmic delivery, and emotionally accessible songwriting. His music often explores themes of ambition, relationships, nightlife, self-growth, and urban experience, reflecting both the vibrancy and unpredictability of Nairobi’s youth culture.
What distinguishes Kash Keed within the industry is the breadth of his creative involvement. Beyond music production and performance, he is also an accomplished video director, sound engineer, colourist, and creative strategist, giving him unusually high control over both the sonic and visual identity of the work he creates. This multidisciplinary approach allows him to shape projects from conception to final visual output, creating a cohesive aesthetic language around his music and collaborations.
Through ventures such as Mainstream Music and Bigtunez, where he serves in leadership and management roles, Kash Keed has also positioned himself as a talent developer and mentor within Kenya’s growing independent music ecosystem. He has consistently used these platforms to support younger artists, producers, and creatives, helping bridge underground talent with wider commercial visibility. His mentorship and collaborative work with artists such as Trvp With Ink, Oleahh, and others reflects his ongoing investment in the next wave of Kenyan music talent.
His creative reach has also extended into larger multimedia and international-facing projects. Kash Keed was among the contributors to the soundtrack of the Netflix series Volume, a project that highlighted the growing global visibility of Nairobi’s contemporary urban sound and the producers shaping it behind the scenes.
At the same time, his work increasingly reflects an international outlook. Recent projects such as London Riddim and collaborations involving artists from outside Kenya signal an artist and producer interested in expanding East African urban music into broader global conversations while remaining rooted in Nairobi’s sonic identity.
Within Kenya’s music landscape, Kash Keed occupies a unique space between producer, curator, artist, and creative director. His influence is felt not only through the songs he creates, but through the ecosystems he helps build around music, visuals, and emerging talent. As Kenya’s urban sound continues evolving, he remains one of the figures helping shape both its direction and presentation for a new generation.
